Let’s keep it clean!
Soap & Making Soap
Does your soap contain lye?
Yes, all soaps (commercial or handmade) contain lye. There is really no way to make soap without it. But, luckily for all of us, lye gets neutralized out of the soap during the saponification process so it does not exist in the final product.
Do you use any animal products?
No, we do not use animal fats in our products.
Do you individually make, cut and wrap all your soaps?
Yes, and proud of it!
Are your products safe for sensitive skin?
Definitely. Commercial soaps tend to be quite irritating to many of us due to all the added chemicals that are used to produce them—handmade soaps are much gentler on the skin.
Handmade soaps also have the benefit of including glycerin; mass produced soaps do not include glycerin, as the large soap companies remove it and sell it as a separate product for the sake of higher profits.
What is glycerin and why should I care if it is in my soap?
Glycerin is a humectant (attracts water). When applied to the skin, it helps to seal in moisture. It is a substance found naturally in skin and one of the many substances in skin that gives it a healthy look and feel. Glycerin, or glycerol, fights dryness and can negate the effects of skin diseases such as psoriasis. Glycerin is an emollient, making skin not only moist, but soft and supple.
Why pay more for handmade soap when less expensive commercial soap is so readily available?
Well, there are so many reasons—the unique look, the intoxicating scents, the natural ingredients, and that awesome silky feel.
How do you choose which oils to use in your soap?
Oils are chosen according to the benefits they provide. We carefully consider the benefits of each oil used when creating a recipe. Did you know that olive oil, for example, creates a very conditioning bar, whereas coconut oil helps create a very cleansing, hard bar with a nice creamy lather?
Are your essential oils pure?
Yes, we use 100% essential oils in our soaps. Some of the fine essential oils we use are orange, eucalyptus, lavender, lemongrass, patchouli, cedarwood, peppermint, and grapefruit. But for those who prefer no scent, we also offer a totally unscented soap (Naked Daze).

My soap looks a little different than the last time I ordered it. Can I receive a refund?
Since our products are handmade, each batch is unique. Temperature and slight variations during the cooking process can affect colour and texture—no need to worry; the quality remains! Just like a homemade batch of cookies, for instance, no two batches will come out looking exactly the same.
Nevertheless, if you ever feel that you have received an inferior product, please contact Sunflower Soaps and we will gladly send you a replacement product.
How soon will my order be processed?
Your order will be processed within 3 business days under normal conditions. Although it is a rare occurrence, we could be low in stock of a certain product—if so, you will be notified of such right away and we can adjust your order or offer to send you the product as soon as it is back in stock.
Do you offer vegan soaps?
Yes, all of our soaps are vegan.
